Nigeria: Nigerians, Cows and the Fulanis.
I have been reading news about the Fulani herdsmen's outrageous misconducts and the several attendant loses in terms of life, food/cash crops and properties for decades which reached its stupendous height in the past 3 years under a Fulani headed administration.
My observations:
1. Fulanis, who are agents of death are not basically Nigerians. That is what we have always been told, that they migrate from other parts of Africa. So, if that is the case;
a, Why were they allowed into the country unmonitored?
b, Why are we supposed to accommodate them at all costs, even at the expense of the nationals?
c, Why are they above the law? They are always treated as sacred cows.
2. Nigerians need meat from the cows, yes, but should the need be at all cost, even at the cost of Nigerians lives.
a, Is it a must we eat meat.
b, Why are cows so important that indigenes are no longer allowed to live in peace in their domain?
c, Why is cattle rearing now more important than farming.
3. Nigerians can not take care of cows without the Fulanis. No other indigenes can take care of cattle in this modern age, where automated ranches are the order in the developed countries.
4. Because of our love for cows we must adjust to accommodate even enemies who have no constitutional right of being among us.
5. If all the States in the country need the Fulanis in their state for their citizens to eat meat, then the country is seriously sick and our leaders have no cure for the ailment.
Suggestions to the Governors of our States.
1. Dedicate land for catle ranches for cattle rearing but not to be manned by Fulanis.
2. Send people who are interested to places where they can learn how to take care of cows using modern ranching methods.
3. Import cattle species that will grow better here to give better milks and meats for the populace.
4. Build the ranches while they are receiving training. By the time they are through training, the ranches and the imported cows will be ready.
5. The cows thus produced will be better than those being taken about by the Fulanis.
6. While this developments are on-going, those who feel like dying for lack of Fulanis cow meat are free to do so.
The states or regions will come out of this situation better off.
Please and please for God's sake. Do not bring people into the state under any guise that will later overun the indigenes. Learn from Ilorin history. They'll bring in their cows, later they'll be joined by their families, they'll multiply rapidly as they do not believe in family planning, outgrow the indigenes and be more powerful than them in no time.
A word or even an eye wink is enough for the wise.
The Fulanis entered Nigeria from the north, they were accommodated by the Hausa, only to use warfare to colonize the hausa. Afonja gave then a friendly welcome at Ilorin, only for Ilorin to end up being an Emirate.
Every other state or tribes in Nigeria that are not yet under Fulani authority should be watchful of this new antics of the Fulanis to have their way. It may not happen in your lifetime, but your generations to come will not forgive you for a wrong step you take that ended up in selling them out.
